Original Sports Re-launch online

The 3000 square foot Original Sports high street facility opened its doors to trading in September of 2005. They were selling a large variety of sporting equipment including football, netball, rugby, hockey, running, gym equipment, swimming equipment, tennis, badminton, darts, snooker, cricket and much more. We did very well for three years and then the recession hit.
They met with local sporting clubs on a regular basis and implemented promotions by setting up marketing days. They invested in a custom stand and marketing materials to reach out and promote to their customers whilst at the same time selling more of their stock. This was very difficult and took up alot of their time and valuable resources. For two members of such a small team to be out on a marketing project so often put pressure on all the Original Sports workforce. Sometimes they would sell alot but on other days it would be almost nothing. They became tired of working 7 day weeks, every saturday, sunday and bank holidays whilst the realisation was dawning that most of what they were doing was making them little to no profit.
People were eventually visiting them weeks later as a result of the promotions, and they noticed that each month racketsports equipment such as tennis rackets and running equipment like running shoes were by far the strongest and most profitable sellers. Then the lease on the Original Sports premisis became due for renewal. It was decision time...

So they concentrated on their strengths and provided extensive training for the team in both running and racketsports. They took advice on customer service, and all of the sales team completed an NVQ in retail. They then gave up their high street shop. Original Sports gave up selling all sports equipment except for running and racketsports and relocated to a fantastic new showroom situated within a warehouse just down the road. With things so tough in retail at the moment they also launched our brand new shopping website, which nowadays is a vital way of moving a business forward. Everyone seems to be buying online nowadays! They are also running social media networking campaigns and a website blog so customers have somewhere to comment on their own experiences. Original Sports has been totally re-invented!
Although this has been exhausting for all concerned they can now see a brighter future emerging through the grey clouds. Moving from a high street location is always going to be a huge gamble, and although its early days they feel this is the right move for them. They re-launched on January 4th 2011 with a 'same day' restringing service, a unique racket testing area, and a brand new video gait analysis department for runners.
Because of this dramatic downsizing they are now also able to offer a far more expansive clothing range for both racketsports and running including Babolat, Nike, Adidas, Asics, Under Armour New Balance, and many, many more. A friendly and enthusiastic sales team awaits all customers at Original Sports, to offer advice and technical information as required. In fact, we are very encouraged at how many people comment on way they have been treated when the come to the showroom or give them a call after visiting the new website. Its going to be an uphill struggle for them again this year! But at least we will now they are all enjoying the challenge.
